Challenges abound !
Where have all the flowers gone ? Like most industries, the flower industry is experiencing lots of stress. With demand collapsing in April, many growers scaled back production and staff. A few closed altogether. The transportation (think trucks and planes) reduced service. Government inspections and services moved to shorter hours. So as demand grows, we reopen, Mother's Day happens, the demand for flowers has out stripped the available flowers in the marketplace. In some ways it is a good thing, the shortage has helped our North American growers get back into production sooner. It has also helped keep older product that might have lingered because of low demand, moving thru. It will stabilize in the next 2-3 weeks, but we have all our own wonderful LOCAL production coming soon. Our Lancaster farm partners say they will begin shipping early June. An the elusive NJ peonies will be here next week ( i'll send a quick email with confirmation) And other regional growers will be on as well. We will be having more complete online product listing in June midmonth so stay tuned. and safe. and try to be nice.
